Get the full music experience in a judgement-free creative environment! Students learn their choice of instrument (bass, guitar, drums, piano, or voice), form bands, write and record original music, learn to play cover songs, participate in a choir, and perform live at least twice during the program year. Homework help and tutoring is offered every day, along with creative workshops and performances from musical guests from a variety of genres. MusiCore Kensington is free as long as students commit to attending and participating regularly.

  • For grades 6-12
  • After school until 6:00 pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the school year (September-June)
  • Students can go to any school or be homeschooled, but must live in Philadelphia.


The MusiCore Kensington after school program includes:

  • Group music lessons on guitar, bass, drums, voice, or keyboard
  • Band practice with peers to write original music
  • Lessons on producing and recording music, hands-on stage technical skills, and music theory
  • Optional choral ensemble
  • Performances at professional venues
  • Recording sessions at professional studios
  • Homework help and tutoring
  • College and trade school application help
  • Daily meal provided
  • SeptaKEY transportation costs can be provided if needed
  • No experience is necessary and we provide all instruments

To qualify, students:

  • Must be in grade 6-12 (or entering 6th grade in the upcoming school year)
  • Must live in Philadelphia
  • Must fit income requirements. We use 200% of the poverty level.
  • Must attend Tuesday – Thursday from after school (or 3pm) until 6pm
